Fotoveiling levert 9,7 miljoen dollar op
Photographs that once belonged to Refco Inc. brought in more than $9.7 million at auction, according to Christie's auction house.
Refco filed for bankruptcy after disclosing that its former CEO had concealed a $430 million debt from the company's books. The photographs were taken its company's offices last year and ordered sold by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan.
The total from the 321-lot three-part sale, which began on April 25 and ended Wednesday, was $3 million above the highest of pre-sale expectations.
The sale set more than 50 new world auction records, Christie's said. Among them was "Beach Scene / Nuns / Nurse (with Choices)," an arrangement of photographs by John Baldessari that sold on May 5 for $744,000. Another top lot was Andrea Gursky's "Avenue of the Americas," which sold for $374,400, and was purchased by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
